TOMORROW IS TOO LATE or THE RETURN OF THE NOBLE GRAPETOMORROW IS TOO LATE or THE RETURN OF THE NOBLE GRAPE album (ARC/N2K)
At last, 15 years after the last album, The Grape return to make their follow up. The Return Of The Noble Grape was a fascinating, joyous experience, working with brilliant musicians - Ali Greenlaw, Damian Grant and Mickey Simmonds - who took some solo ramblings and fleshed them out into fully formed pop performances.

Make A Difference
It’s the way we close our eyes over everybody else’s love
It’s a warning to the wise, all these secrets under heaven
It’s the darkness in the day that suffocates the morning light
And the promises we make believing things are getting better
It doesn’t follow through, if you think there’s better use
In hiding every feeling that you find
I’m standing next to you with all my hippie lines
And questioning this bitter slave
I’ll make a difference to you, I’ll make a difference to your day

It’s the way we’re not surprised over anybody else’s pain (Seen it all before)
It’s the problem and the prize for making everyone feel better (Seen it all before)
It doesn’t follow through, if you think there’s better use
In trusting all these images inside
I’m standing next to you with all these hippie lines
And questioning this bitter slave
I’ll make a difference to you, I’ll make a difference to your day

Final Days
I know I’ve been wrong again, I know it’s a crying shame
We won’t speak again today
I know in the hours ahead, we’ll both make apologies
It’s all over and done again
Too late, again, to spend a an evening in the moonlight
Too late, again, to sing another lover’s tune
But I know I’ll spend my final days with you

We don’t do it all to plan, we know it’s below the skin
We won’t tired of battling
It’s not only sink or swim, we’re not tired of flattery
It’s all about the little things
Too much, again, to see us dancing through the summer fields
Too much, again, to lose this rhythm of the of the trouble
I know I’ll spend my final days with you

Tonight, again, we’ll shake our heads around the circle
Tonight, again, we’ll wonder why on earth but I know you know
I’ll spend my final days with you

I know where I belong

Borders
There’s no border in this heart of mine
There’s no gap between the time we’re tied
And I ask myself why and if you understand
You can simply put your hand in mine
Follow forward as I make my stride
And I ask myself why and will you take a stand
I will lead you to the borderline if you can

There’s no borders in this love of mine
There’s no difference or sweet disguise
And I ask myself why and offer you my hand
You can simply let your eyes meet mine
Take the confidence to make me smile
And I ask myself why and where this flight will land
I will show you to the borderline if you can
I will take you to this borderline if you can

There’s no borders in this life of mine
There’s no complicated dark desire
And I ask myself why and can we do as planned
You can simply put your life with mine
You can join me in this dance divine
And I ask myself why as sand pours into sand
I will head across this borderline if you can
We will run across this borderline if you can

Off My Plate
I hate to rush you but I just can’t wait
I’ve got to get a little off my plate
You get a feeling, see me standing here
I get the feeling when you stand and stare
I keep a little bit of open door
It’s only natural what I’ve seen before
I treat our moments like we’re made a match
You leave me thinking I’m an itch to scratch

I’ve been so long, lonely, waiting
Falling further, sinking, trailing

It’s such a problem that I can’t disguise
Not going to gamble with our very lives
You have my life to change with simple words
I can’t rely on what I don’t deserve

I’ve been so long, lonely, waiting
Falling further, sinking, trailing
Living lower, dying nearly
Save me lover, save me

I hate to rush you but I just can’t wait
I need to know before it’s far too late
It’s such an effort not to hold this weight
I’ve got to get a little off my plate

Rhythm Of Life
If you believe there’s a top of the world
It’s where the rhythm of life is heard
If you believe that the tide has turned
Then the rhythm of life is learned

I’ll be there like a setting sun to pull you on
I’ll be there in the setting sun when all your hope is gone
Where the rhythm of life is strong

If you believe that you shouldn’t go
The rhythm of life still flows
If you believe there’s nothing left to show
The rhythm of life is told
I’ll be there

It’s a moment of truth, or a singular sign
It’s a giant reminder for once in your life
It’s a pleasure to know, it’s a terrible treat
It’s a lifetime’s excuse not to miss any beat
It’s a burden to bear, but a weight that you choose
It’s a warm invitation to break the rules
It’s a barrel of fun, it’s a weapon of choice
It’s the final surprise, it’s the one and only voice
It’s a rhythm of life

If you believe in every boy and girl
The rhythm of life is learned
If you believe there’s a top of the world
Then the rhythm of life is heard
I’ll be there

A Dog’s Life
It’s a tall lie when you finish it
And all the magpies’ wings will come away
Hope I sail into your skies
It’s a dog’s life if you give a shit
And every single day is yours to break
Hope I swim into your eyes

Coming closer to the sound
Losing time but gaining ground
There’s no better chance to play
Make a mockery come down
Ring the circle round and round
Falling fast and fade away

It’s a long way from that final split
Because everyone has needs and wants to try
Hope I eat into your time
It’s a tough fight but you bury it
And a big first step when you’re learning how to fly
Hope I finish up in style

Figure feelings for the fight
Doing only what is right
You’re a long way from your best
Take the spirit from the smile
Watch the opposition cry
You won’t mess around before the next chance comes – IT’S HOW WE WIN

(Swim your eyes, a few more drinks and we’ll sail the open skies)

It’s a dog’s life ‘till that final bit
That I don’t want to see before my time
Hope I cruise along this ride
It’s a high price but you carry it
Because all the best you know is worth a pile
Hope I sail into your sky
Into your sky

I’m Alive
Feeling fine, feel those waves wash over me
Through the dial, sending signals fit to feed
On the line, won’t believe it’s not in me
Find that spine, what it takes to burn that bright

Seizing time, with those years ahead of me
Catch my eyes, all these words I want to read
So inspired, all this work I want to breathe
Too much tried and all the magic left so fine

But I’m alive, and I’m open to survive

In this light, rush around so proud to see
All my tries, let these talents set the scene
To the wire, faithful to the ones who mean
That if I’m to be sure of the meaning of all I have here

I’m alive, and I hoping to survive

(Don’t you know you can’t be told
Carry me away in all the flow
Close enough to touch the door
Far enough away to lose it all
Don’t want to know, what I don’t want to know
A little bit of what I used to show
Standing with the strain of “want to be”
Finding out the final truth to me)

Part Of Me
I never want to see a day ahead, better yet
I never need to have an answer fed, I want to learn instead
I never need to know the best way there, but I’m taking care
I’ve never needed what I don’t need next, but I do my best

I’ll never let a single darkness change my lighter space
I’ll never let a promise turn my gaze from the life I’ve made
I’ve never meant to be a burden based or a time to waste
I’ve never let a moment slip or fade, since I found my way

Maybe I’ve become a fool
Maybe I’ve just seen the next stage one stage ahead
Maybe I should be ignored
Maybe you can’t see it’s all a ride within your head

I’ll never leave without you in my sight, it wouldn’t cross my mind
I’ll never run across a busy line, I wouldn’t waste my time
I’ll never settle for a just because, not a heavy loss
I’ll never let you find the trouble first, or ever see my worst

Maybe I’m a traveller, maybe I’m just wandering
Maybe I should get a life, stop this fallen fumbling
Maybe I’m beyond my time, maybe I can’t see it yet
Maybe it’s the part of me that you don’t get

Perform
If you ever get caught when the time is called
If you ever get lost on the edge of it all
Remember you’re required to perform

When the wailing and the howling begins to fall
Like the ebbing and flowing of a gentle storm
Remember you’re required to perform
And you know when it’s time to perform

And the stars will rise up in your sky
And the leaving won’t leave you behind
Like a bright awful lie that we’ve sworn
Like the night after night, like before

If you get tired of the twist and torn
And you can’t understand how the circle forms
Remember you’re required to perform
And you know when it’s time to perform

And the stars will rise up in your sky
And the leaving won’t leave you behind
Like the final few steps to the door
Like finally finding the core
Will you mind never ever be sure
But the body will drive you once more

It’s time to perform

A Dog’s Life (Still)
It’s a dog’s life when you think of it
And every single day is yours to make
Hope I finish up in style
It’s a high price in the thick of it
But a good old fashioned laugh is worth a try
Hope I finish with a smile

Figure never finding out
What the truth is all about
It’s a long way from your best
Feed the feeling with a shout
Better with now, than without
Marry pleasure with success

It’s a long day ‘till you finish it
And every day that’s gone is wanted back
Never quite within your grasp
It’s a fine time when you’re clinching it
And a very good time to remember what you lack
Never at your worst, at last

Sometimes lost within a cloud
Falling fast and fading out
Run a marathon of doubt
Then special sight above the crowd
Say it fast and say it loud
Always stay ahead of the feelings from your heart – THAT’S HOW WE WIN
Well done mate
